Detroit Opera, formerly Michigan Opera Theater, is known for its innovative, inventive and often surprising takes on opera.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director (and MacArthur Genius) Yuval Sharon, Associate Artistic Director Christine Goerke and Music Director Roberto Kalb, Detroit Opera's productions often present fresh takes on classic pieces as well as premieres of new operas.

Detroit Opera's Resident Artist Program offers comprehensive artistic and career development opportunities to a new generation of opera singers.

Resident artists live in Detroit September through June, where they work closely with Detroit Opera artists. They perform not only with Detroit Opera but also in recitals and concerts throughout the Detroit area.

This week, four of this year's five Detroit Opera Resident Artists are visiting northern Michigan to work with Interlochen Arts Academy opera students.

They were joined by Nathalie Doucet, Detroit Opera's Head of Music and Resident Artist Program Director.

While at Interlochen, the guest artists will present performance master classes and roundtable Q&A sessions with Academy students.

They will also give a recital with students. The performance is Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall at Interlochen. It's free and open to the public.
